Islesford Neighborhood House Association

A Brief History of the Neighborhood House:

A joint venture of the native islanders and the summer colony, the Islesford Neighborhood house was built by Alonzo Bryant in the winter of 1913. The original layout was an upstairs Winter Meeting Hall and downstairs, the Ladies Parlor with fireplace, A Library Room, Kitchen and a large Hall. A stage was soon added and in the last twenty years the building has expanded to include a larger Library and History Room, and indoor bathroom, an updated kitchen and a backstage/storage room. There is also a lovely memorial flower garden outside.

Through the years the Neighborhood House has been the heart of island social events. Dances, receptions, theatricals, concerts, exercise groups, basketball games, movie nights, potluck suppers, 8th grade graduations, Grange and municipal meetings and the Islesford Fair all come under our roof. We come together to celebrate, commemorate ad break bread with one another.
